Maundy Thursday: the Mandate to “Love one another”

Maundy, from the same root as “mandate,” refers to the commandment Jesus gave his disciples on the night before he was crucified, “Love one another” and the occasion for the institution of Holy Communion, to commemorate Jesus’ last meal. Lord’s Supper teaches us about how Jesus loved us. Until we see how Jesus has loved us, we don’t really understand what it means for us to love one another.
